To prepare fried gram chutney, you will need:
1 cup fried gram (also known as roasted chana dal or pottukadalai)
2-3 cloves of garlic
2-3 green chilies
2-3 small tamarind pieces
Salt to taste
1 tsp oil
1/4 tsp mustard seeds
1/4 tsp cumin seeds
A pinch of asafoetida (optional)
A few curry leaves (optional)
Instructions:
In a pan, heat oil and add mustard seeds, cumin seeds and asafoetida.
Once the seeds start to splutter, add curry leaves and sauté for a few seconds.
Add garlic and green chilies and sauté until they turn golden brown.
Add the fried gram, tamarind and salt to the pan and sauté for a few minutes.
Allow the mixture to cool.
Once cooled, grind the mixture to a fine paste using a mixer or mortar and pestle.
Your fried gram chutney is now ready to be served. Enjoy!
